I went out there in search of experience
to taste and to touch and to feel as much
as a man can before he repents

Relax…

“I don’t care where you’re from, home is always the warmest place around.”

Life is all about decisions.  We make decisions based on the information available to us at that moment.  Sometimes, the decisions we make turn out to be good.  Often, though they turn out to be bad.  Sometimes, in the end, too, it turns out that it didn’t really matter what we decided, it all turned out the same.

But this about bad decisions.  Not bad decisions in terms of getting too drunk, or skipping class.  But bad decisions, on a grander scale.  Course of life decisions.  It occurred to me recently that I had made a poor life decision–and my life was literally miserable because of it (Miserable: adj. 1.) ~3 hours of sleep a night  2.) Living on someone else’s schedule 3.) Cleaning up the messes of others…).

Was that what I wanted?  Obviously not.  But it was a means to an end.  So the real question was, was the ends worth the means?  That answer was much more difficult to answer.  I found comfort in my friends and family and realized that it was not worth it, despite the promising rewards.

In the end, you’ve got it stop, take some time to think, figure out what’s important to you.

To me, it’s family, friends, school, fun.  Necessarily in that order.  So I restored order to my priorities, and thus, to my life.

Rocks

“Sometimes, there just aren’t enough rocks.”
–Forest Gump

I once got into a fight with my girlfriend while listening to Weird Al’s “Dare to Be Stupid” album. There’s nothing more surreal than yelling at someone while “Girls Just Want to Have Lunch” plays in the background.

I think people need to mind their own business. I don’t care if it was heroin in my cup, it’s in my cup. Fuck you.

And I like you.  So there’s that.  I got that.

…where meaning is genuinely to be found—in families, in friends, in the passage of seasons, in nature, in simple ceremonies and rituals, in curiosity, generosity, compassion, ans service to others, in a decent independence and privacy…
John Gatto
